The Oder-Randow Delta, spanning northeastern Germany and northwestern Poland, is a region with rich biodiversity and increasing interest in nature-based tourism. Both countries aim to enhance ecological value while providing economic opportunities for local communities. To support this, GeoIQ Partners conducted a multi-criteria analysis (MCA) to identify suitable areas for establishing a new nature reserve for the red deer (Cervus elaphus).
The MCA integrated three main stakeholder perspectives:
- Habitat requirements of red deer(forest cover, water availability, distance to roads and settlements)
- Tourism(proximity to hotels, restaurants and accessibility)
- Local communities(opportunities for income and employment without excessive disturbance)
Spatial datasets from Germany and Poland were processed. Buffer analyses, reclassification and raster-based scoring (0–10 scale) were applied to each criterion. Four suitability maps were produced: one equal-weighted map and three stakeholder-specific maps (red deer, tourism, local communities).
